portrait installation

The finishing touches were added to the portraits in the studio over the weekend and then on Monday they were ready to be hung!
The portraits were painted on synthetic flashspun high-density polyethylene fibers that are mounted on the wall similar to interior wall paper. Artist Rhonda Greenblat is in expert in this technique and uses it often in her own work. She was on site to help facilitate the installation. A little more cleaning, sanding, spackling and fine tuning the placement of how the portraits would be hung. Glue was then applied to the back side of the fabric and some to the wall itself. The portraits were carefully positioned and pressed on, using a smoothing tool to squeeze out any air pockets and excess glue.
Artist Wes Marks helped seal the edges and prep the backdrop area of the portraits.
And now all six beautiful portraits are up! From left to right — Elvia Marta, Andi Wong, Monina Sen Cervone, Dr.John Calloway, Annette Ribeiro, and Tara Siegel.
Nico, Wes and Gaelen will be on site for the next few weeks painting the rest of the design. Feel free to stop by and say hi!
